Grangemouth Strike

Posted in Strike by welshboi on April 29, 2008

At 6:00 am on Sunday workers at the Grangemouth petro-chemical plant in Scotland walked out on strike after Ineos, the company that manage the facility for BP attacked the workers pensions. Ineos want to reduce current workers pensions and do away with new workers pension schemes. In response to this attack the workers have struck.
The main stream media have responded to the strike with it’s usual bluster, declaring that Scotland would be without fuel for a month and that Edinburghs buses would run out of fuel on Monday (yesterday – they didn’t) This complete nonsense has had the effect of causing panic buying of fuel and is a blatant attempt to turn the public against the strikers who simply want fair working conditions. Ineos make a profit of between 2-3 million pounds per day, hardly on the brink of bankruptcy. This is an attempt by the company, with the support of the media to break the union.
I hope that the workers at Grangemouth stay strong and keep their resolve, they can win. Their actions will hurt the company hard. I urge everybody who reads this to show your support for the strikers and when you hear people complaining remind them that it is only by supporting one another when we are in struggle with our bosses can any of us hope to win.

More information can be found here and here.
Oh and here.

Seems like the campaign against the military training academy at St. Athens in South wales is attracting special attention from the farces of Law and Order(tm). At a recent peaceful demonstration against the planned academy the old bill were out in force with specialist units and the Forward Intelligence Team (FIT) brought in specially from London. I am led to wonder if the presence of the South Wales Anarchists on the demonstration? The plod have in the past reacted excessively to this mob so the boyo’s back home must be doing something right. Though they appear to have been attempting to go undercover recently if the picture below is anything to go by.

A New Look For Indymedia Scotland

Posted in Indymedia, Interwebs, Media, Scotland by welshboi on April 24, 2008

Indymedia Scotland has this week given itself a makeover by switching the software it uses and drastically altering the layout of the site. At first I wasn’t sure about the layout but having given it a few days and having posted a couple of announcements I can safely say that this new site is a lot easier to use. Whereas before I was never a fan of the interface used for submitting articles, the new version is very similar to most blogging and forum interfaces built as it is on Drupal. This makes it a lot easier to add hypertext links, images and other files.
The new announcements feature is also extremely handy meaning that if you advertise an event it wont disappear off the bottom of the newswire if it’s a busy week. The ticker in the left hand column giving a countdown of upcoming events is a really nice touch.
All in all a massive improvement over the old site and leaps and bounds ahead of all the other Indymedia sites I have seen.

The BNP attempted to sell their paper again last Saturday (19/04/08)
After ten minutes of grief Charlie Bailie, their glorious leader, remembered he had an urgent appointment elsewhere. According to their blog this constitutes a successful paper sale. I would really love to see what happens on an unsuccessful one!
Nice to see they had thoughtfully arranged themselves up against a wall for us :)

Here are some pictures taken at the National Fronts St Georges day rally in South London. According to an Indymedia article they numbered a grand total of 22 and were made to walk on the pavement by the cops. HAH!Wonder if anyone has pointed out to them that St George was a johnny foreigner?

Cheeky Bastards!!

Apparently the BNP’s ‘trade union’ are planning on holding May Day events this year! These filth have a bloody nerve, May Day for those of you who don’t know is International Labour Day, a day to celebrate working class resistance to capitalism. The BNP and their far right agenda is about as anti-working class as it’s possible to get. They seek to divide the working class along lines of race, sexuality and gender before handing us on a platter to the capitalist class.
I really hope they try and show up on any May Day rally and get their arses kicked all over the streets by those they wish to destroy.
Bastards.

Fun Times This May

Posted in Uncategorized by welshboi on April 18, 2008

May is gearing up to be a good one this year with both the traditional May Day celebrations in Glasgow on May the first (who would have guessed?) and almost directly afterwards the Faslane Punks Picnic at the Peace Camp near the Faslane Nuclear Weapons base about thirty miles away!
