I don’t normally watch the news and use the net to pick up on world and local news. However tonight I felt like watching it on the electric valium for once. Tuning in to BBC News 24 for the six o’clock news I was mightily peeved that it took a whole ten minutes for the news to start. The reason for this ridiculous delay was of course the bloody olympics. Ten whole minutes of sports news ahead of the Russian invasion of Georgia, nonce of the month Gary Glitter getting kicked out of Vietnam, facial recognition technology being launched at Manchester airport passport check, NATO soldiers killed in fighting with the Taliban, a British soldier killed in Afghanistan and Guatemalan babies being kidnapped and sold to wealthy families. But still a couple of gold medals ranks higher as news, fucks sake.
Anyone would think that there was a concerted attempt to whip up nationalistic sentiment in the country to bolster an extremely unpopular war and an increasing economic downturn. Nationalistic sentiment, economic crisis, whipping up of antipathy towards migrants and foreigners. Sounds horribly familiar to me.

On a lighter note Gary Glitter has said he’s not ruling out a comeback.

A ‘story‘ posted in indymedia UK this week talks of how eight people died when a bull fighting arena in Columbia collapsed. Now I personally think that bull fighting is pretty noxious but to celebrate the deaths of the spectators is pretty fucking low.

Says the article. Shows how much humanity these freaks have when they find the deaths of eight people amusing. I swear these fucks are one step away from starting to attack people over their choice of diet.

Cheers to stanley for bringing this to my attention. Apparently the composer of disco classic So Macho turned fundamentalist nut job, George Hargreaves, has declaimed the Welsh flag as being Satanic. I think this is absolutely brilliant and makes me proud to be a Welshman.
I’ve always been a big fan of the Welsh flag despite always being opposed to nationalism. I mean it’s a fucking dragon! How cool is that. Most countries have crosses, tri-colours or stripes, the welsh have a Dragon. That kicks ass.

So it seems that Random House publishing house has pulled out of publishing a book about the ignorant middle ages merchant Mo and his noncing up up of a wee lassie. This book by Journalist Sherry Jones entitled ‘Jewel Of Medina’ featured life in dirty ‘ol Mo’s harem.It apparently objectifies the ‘prophets’ wife and is therefore disrespectful.
Well here’s a few questions for you.

Who gives a toss whether it is disrespectful to Islam or a dirty old paedo who lived hundreds of years ago. Why should any particular superstition be treated with any more respect than any other irrational belief? It’s absolute bollocks.
