Please Help Florence and Tionge Mhango

HO ref: M1369020

Florence Mhango and her daughter Tionge, known to her friends and family as Precious, (10) were detained this week when they went to sign at the Home Office. They have been given removal directions for a flight to Malawi from Heathrow at 19.00 on Monday 23rd November.

Florence and Precious moved to the UK in 2003 with Florence’s husband – Precious’ father. Florence left her husband in 2006 after suffering years of domestic violence and abuse. Florence is terrified of returning to Malawi because of what her husband and his family may do to her and her daughter. Florence’s mother has already been threatened by her husband and his family and if she is returned there is a real danger that Florence and Precious will face harassment and violence. Precious will also be at risk of Female Genital Mutilation if she returns to Malawi. Florence is active in her local church and she and Precious are important members of the Cranhill community in Glasgow. The UKBA have said that Precious would be able to adjust to living in Malawi despite that fact she has lived here since the age of 4 and doesn’t speak Chichewa, the native language of Malawi. Florence’s friends and supporters in Scotland are shocked by the UKBA’s attempt to forcibly remove them from their home in Glasgow. We are calling for them to be returned to live in peace in Glasgow where they belong.

  1. Sorry? FMG is not widely practiced in Malawi – I have lived in Malawi for over 9 years now and have heard nothing about it. Plus we live in a free democracy – with recent peaceful elections that have been wdiely recognised and credited. Another example of gullible people in the westy all too eager to believe that we in Africa live in cruel primitive and despotic countries. Give us a break guys

“A few small ethnic groups practice female genital mutilation, which is widely condemned by international health experts as damaging to both physical and psychological health. The Government is presently not taking action against FGM”
“While in Malawi a couple of months ago, I came across the story of a 14 year-old girl of Yao tribe that inhabits land in the Southern end of the country. She was diagnosed as HIV-positive although she was a virgin. Blame was laid on the fact that during tribal circumcision, the same razor would be used on any number of children at the same time.”

  3. this is one of the most ridiculous stories i have ever read. I am a Malawian female and have never heard about this female genital mutilation that she is allegedly worried about. Women in Malawi are not circumcised – as for the 14 year old Yao girl – she was probably born HIV positive (she may have got in in vitro from her mother or during the birth process or even during breast feeding). I am a Yao myself and can tell you this – we do not get circumcised. We actually feel sorry for the poor women in countries like Sudan and Somalia who are forced to undergo this kind of mutilation.

This is just an excuse for her not to get deported – she is an economic immigrant not a genuine asylum seeker and should really be kicked out of Scotland pronto. I’m sorry but i really have no sympathy for this unpatriotic woman who will obviously lie about anything to avoid being deported.

    • What makes you bring up HIV? You are wrong about Malawian girls not enduring FGM. If you read the links I have posted above you will find that it is still practised in your country. Just because you are not aware of it does not mean it does not happen.

  4. This is a total lie, There is no FGM in Malawi. am forty, female and have never heard of it being practiced in Malawi. I get the lady grew up in Malawi, check her and see if she was ever mutilated.

The lady is an economic migrant and should find some other reason to stay in scotland other than dragging us into this barbaric cruel custom.

Ask Scottish gynecologists who have worked in Malawi if they have ever seen even one Malawian woman who had undergone FGM.

Miss Mhango, try the lesbian card, it might work
